GRE-argument

The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.

"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and house painting."

SOLUTION:

In the argument the committee members have recommended to apply the same reforms and set of restriction which are being applied in their near by area of Brookville. These include the colors of exterior paints as well as the issue of landscaping.
At first glance the argument seems agreeable but when more light is shed on the issue and more detailed facts are concerned,it is clear that there are several grave fallacies in its argument as well as it commits false analogy.


The author has not mentioned more detailed view of Brookville. Such conclusion drawn from argument without proper analysis of other issues of Brookville is not appropriate. Full light should be thrown on what circumstances the average property values have tripled here. Simply repeating the same measures taken by Brookville community will not assure the increase of property value of Deerhaven Acres. It may be a part of strategy to improve reforms in exterior and landscape but it is not possible that the price rise is only through that issues. Moreover more detailed statistics should be provided relevant to deerhaven Acres to implement the reform. If Deerhaven wishes to increase its property value then these are not the sole solutions. It is a well-known fact that change in exterior of the homes by repainting it would definitely add to the appealing physical outlook of the community.If the reforms applied are not better then there are more chances of price down and reduction of price value instead of improvement of property value of society. The details like area of Brookville as well as DeerHaven has not been mentioned which plays an important role in property value. 


At last ;the argument does not provide enough information on various solid factors which increases the property value apart from mentioned and just by concentrating on those reforms; Deerhaven property value will increase.
