University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Dallas, University of North Texas in Denton, for a story about the three schools’ chase for Tier One research university status.
College Park District plays more than an entertainment role at UTA.
The district is one of the additional avenues the university hopes to use to fund its quest to become a national research institution. Revenue from the district, private gifts, additional housing leases, retail outlets and natural gas royalties are among the ways the university plans to draw in more money to promote its highest priority — Tier One research status.
As state support for creating Tier One research institutions faces the challenge of limited funds, advancements like the College Park District represent what UTA and the seven other emerging research institutions in Texas are turning to further finance their Tier One missions.
Tier One institutions are recognized for their innovations, premier faculty and high-achieving students.
Michael Templo one of my friend at the wellsfargo bank had a say regarding nursing school of UTA. "Nursing school at UTA si very hard to get in"
“To reach true Tier One status, we’ve got to be excellent across the board” says the president of university of Texas at Arlington Mr Vistasbh Karbhari. It makes me feel immensely proud about UT-Arlington status change from tier-2 to tier-1. I believe change of status among universities will boost the overall development efforts of state of texas and not only that more and more companies will be inclined moving to texas. Texas has been least effected state of US in terms of the economic fall.
UTA was already named as NEXT GENERATION university by America foundation in 2013. Not only that I followed the official twitter account of UTA which had a headline of "United states one of the largest growing public universities." UTA has fostered that notion by attracting top-notch faculty with research, which, in turn, draws more students to the university. This academic year, the university announced its attainment of 27 endowed faculty positions. UTA also plays a hand in breakthrough medical research that spawned innovative robotic surgery tools and a sleep apnea device. This speaks to another value in having a research institution – it’s role in the marketplace, Sullivan said.
Upon various students that I just surveyed ; most of them opined that every year and every semester that they are advancing there is a substantial rise in number of students. I glimpsed on some publications and media letters which revealed that there is an increase of around 35% in intake of students since last five years.
The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education listed the universities among 115 schools designated in its highest ranking for research activity. The designation, often referred to as "Carnegie Tier One," was previously held only by four Texas schools — the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, Rice University and the University of Houston.
The rankings focus solely on research prominence. But the designation is a sign that the universities are moving closer to state leaders' goal of increasing the number of overall "tier one" universities in Texas, university and state leaders said.
"It is quite an accomplishment," said Raymund Paredes, commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. "It is obviously an indication that our emerging research universities are in fact emerging and becoming top research universities."
